Course Information

The session will start with a series of case histories of presenting complaints and examination findings. Each delegate will be asked to provide their suggestions for diagnosis and management strategy. The lecture will describe an easy to follow and quick screening protocol, to be used within general practice (copies of this will be available for delegates wishing to personalise it for their own practice). ​ An up-to-date description of the different diagnoses within TMD will be provided, each one defined as Rare, Uncommon or Common. The diagnostic criteria of the most common conditions will be provided enabling a confident diagnosis in the primary care setting. The management of each common TMD will be discussed including some guidance on splint therapy. There will be an update on bruxism and a discussion on how a TMD can influence a restorative treatment plan. The final part of the afternoon will be a return to the Case Histories. Delegates can compare their suggestions on the diagnoses and TPs before the lecture with their view after the lecture and with those of the lecturer.
